Leading international and Australian companies have confirmed their interest in the proposed Yarrabilba Environmental Business Cluster to be developed in south-east Queensland.
Being developed by Delfin Lend Lease at its future masterplanned community of Yarrabilba, the business precinct will be the World’s first Environmental Business Cluster.
Top companies such as Thiess Services, Hills Industries Ltd, Silver Communities, Chromagen, QED Occtech Services and Bluescope Water have cemented their interest in being part of the Cluster by signing a Statement of Intent witnessed by Deputy Premier Anna Bligh, whilst Schneider Electric signed a statement of intent at a private event in London attended by Premier Peter Beattie on Friday.
The Environmental Business Cluster will be a major business precinct catering to companies producing environmentally sustainable products, as well as office-based research and consulting groups.
Lend Lease Communities Regional General Manager Queensland Andrew Brimblecombe said more than 50 companies had already expressed interest in being part of the Environmental Business Cluster, including industries ranging from solar energy and water technology to sustainable white goods and alternative fuel.
“Research commissioned by the Queensland Government has found that the environmental sector produced revenue of $1.3billion to the state in 2003/04,” said Mr Brimblecombe.
“Globally, the sector is growing at 12 per cent annually. The high level of interest in the Cluster illustrates the high demand from industry for such a unique business precinct.
“We are excited to have such major national and international players as the founding strategic alliance partners for the Environmental Business Cluster. Having companies such as Thiess Services, Schneider Electric, Hills Industries Ltd, Silver Communities, Chromagen, QED Occtech Services and Bluescope Water will ensure the Cluster is a precinct for world-leading research, manufacturing and services.
“Our job now is to capitalise on this strong interest and work with the Queensland Government and Beaudesert Shire Council to ensure the Cluster becomes a reality.
“Creating a unique business precinct in south-east Queensland will also bolster youth training and jobs for Queenslanders by providing long-term career opportunities in a growing industry.
“Experts in the field argue that the high level of fragmentation in the industry is limiting its profile and growth and that a central hub would act as a catalyst for the growth of the environmental goods and services industry both in Queensland and Australia.”
The proposed town of Yarrabilba is situated on a 2,014-hectare site in the Beaudesert Shire. To be developed over a 30 year period, upon completion the community is expected to be home to 52,000 residents in 23,000 homes on 19,000 allotments.
Delfin Lend Lease is Australia’s largest developer of masterplanned communities with more than 20 projects across eight key population centres throughout Australia.
